Our family connections have been weakening, I think, since the death of our parents. I have sent post Christmas cards for years but this year is a particularly difficult one. I may send out letters sometime soon, or I may just send out my regular letters whenever. Good point, though, about continuing family stories over the generations. I only hope that my nieces and nephew do that. I'm passing your column on to them. Thanks.

I think this is a lovely idea. I have been writing letters - as a Christmas gift - to my adult son for many years.

Thank you, Cheryl. We still send a card -- which I typically do over Thanksgiving to beat the holiday deadlines -- but I may add a letter going forward, inspired by the Memory Trail! And I love your closing photo.

Hi, Suzanna, I hesitated to single out cards without a letter, since I didn't want to offend anyone who was making an effort to keep in touch! Inquiring minds, though, always love to know more!

I stopped sending Christmas cards when I was divorced 50 years ago and never got back into the habit. You’re giving me the gift of sending post-holiday letters. Thank you.

The family connection is incredibly important; we have a good collection of family lore, but we can strengthen it. Thank you. Now all I need is self-discipline. 😉
