Whatever the new food guidelines are, I’ll probably do the exact opposite. RFK JR is a crackpot who has ruined a formerly credible federal agency.

HA! Great take on it, Dave! Thanks.

I hope the most innocuous description of the new guidelines will be that they are "interesting". Hopefully not every recommendation is one that had to be vetted by Big Ag first. I am going to use the "nutritionally hilarious" line. We all need to be on the lookout for those kind of issues in the guidance.

Thanks, Kathi! Yes, it's possible that the guidelines will be ho-hum! But controversy is likely, since neither the MAHA Moms or the Marion Nestle fan club may be satisfied!

Now more than ever I'll read MAHA out loud as "MAHA-ha-ha-ha!" with a villainous laugh.

I too am going to use "nutritionally hilarious." Great line. Too bad it's anything but funny.

Yes, Andy! "Nutritionally hilarious" is a great line. As far as I can see, the guidelines aren't tied to the advisory panel's research-based recommendations. Surprise!

Thanks for these great insights into Dr. Marion Nestle's interview at the Iowa Farmers Union weekly Lunch and Learn. You've built on those to explore even more connections. This is my favorite line: "Isn’t it counterintuitive to cut SNAP benefits and health insurance, along with grants to local food producers, and expect that the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans will amount to a hill of beans?" Anyone can see the full 30 minute interview here: https://www.facebook.com/iowafarmersunion/videos/1207470701306224 You can also sign up to received an invitation to all of the weekly Lunch & Learn topics here: https://iowafarmersunion.org/elementor-7681/

Thanks, Matt, for including the link to her interview. I should have thought of that!

Common sense would be to eat a wide variety and everything in moderation, AND keep things that kill weeds and insects OUT of our food.

Absolutely, Sarah! Thanks!

Thank you Cheryl. I have followed Dr. Nestle, many in the local food movement have, for years. She is a voice of sanity and rationality. She was a strong influence along with several Iowans, in the Obama administration.

She has been a great force in nutrition and health! I don't agree on absolutely everything she says or writes, but I definitely respect her opinion and expertise much more than our current HHS Secretary!. Thanks!

Nestle is one of my favorites. Have quoted her in my columns several times.

Thanks, Kurtis. Yes, too bad her voice can't cut through all of the MAHA noise.
