I wonder if anyone in addition to me is in no celebratory mood for the 250 year performative self promotional actions of the current authoritarian administration?

Your story is one more illustration why.

Thank you, Cheryl.

Yes, Jim. This administration is doing its best to try to squeeze Americans back into the original mold we have outgrown.

I'm with you Jim. And if they think they need a white guy to commemorate the "discovery" of America, Leif Eriksson was here centuries before Columbus. This is shameful.

How in the world do you continue to unearth this incredible stories of national import that we never read any where else?! Cheryl, you are a marvel!

You are so kind, Julie. Thank you!

Thank you for writing about what is going on with the coins being made to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country. It is no surprise that Bessent came up with his own coin designs. Our history is being rewritten each and every day by the people who work for trump. There may be bigger issues than this to talk about but this is another exhausting example of how this administration does not care about or respect the history of our country.

You're welcome, Kathi! I realize that this could come across as a superficial issue, but when you put it together with all of the other steps being taken to whitewash our history as a country, it adds up, doesn't it? Thank you.

Wasn’t aware of this. Can’t wait for these guys to get off the national stage. I’m tired of being pulled backwards.

Absolutely! Let the pendulum swing.

Great post!

I was intrigued to see that last month, Senator Grassley publicly encouraged the Trump administration to reconsider their decision to axe the coin honoring the women's suffrage movement. He rarely speaks out against anything they do. More on that here:

Thanks, Laura! Excellent column, including your insights about Grassley’s uncharacteristic criticism of this administration’s thumbing its nose regarding the significance of the women’s vote.

Oh, Cheryl! So what, is all I can comment back to such liberal dribble. After people of color insisted on demand to tear down historical works of art & history, I couldn’t care less that our President or some others suggested different depictions on coins! Get this though I’m not a feminist and never will be. You would be in my camp when you realize moms and wives count as nothing to receive benefits because of marriage when your Social Security benefits went down if you hadn’t worked yourself in an ERA Amendment society.

Thank you for bringing this to attention. I hope all of us who have read this now and have heard about the decision to reject the committee's decision on the faces to be inscribed on new coins for the 250 th anniversary have been rejected. This means no face of a woman, a Black person, or anyone other than a white male. Another atrocity coming from this administration ....it must stop!

Thank you, Pat. We need to demonstrate in as many other ways possible during Year 250 that we celebrate our history of striving for diversity and equality.
